Amazon worker hit by car while walking to warehouse dies

Clay, N.Y. — A man hit by a car near the Amazon warehouse Saturday has died, deputies said today.
Basir Rashid, 40, of Brooklyn, died Sunday afternoon from his injuries, according to Thomas Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga Sheriff’s Office. Rashid was staying in DeWitt, he said.
Rashid was hit by a car as he walked from a bus stop near the Amazon Warehouse on Morgan Road at 6:50 p.m., Newton said.
He had been walking from the bus stop after getting off a Centro Bus, Newton said. Rashid walked from the east side of Morgan Road and was crossing four lanes on the road when he was hit by a Ford compact car heading south, he said.
Newton said Rashid was on his way into work at the warehouse. He was not wearing reflective gear and had on dark clothing, he said.
Rashid was not using a crosswalk, Newton said.
